It started at 180 days, and then it got down to 90 then 45 and then it hit 10, and now we are down to 8. Then 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and finally, the last day of high school will be here.
A week later, I'll be walking across the stage being handed my high school diploma. Some of my classmates are 100% ready to graduate, while others don't want to leave... ever.
I'm neither of those people. At the beginning of the school year, I was already counting down out of excitement, but the closer I've gotten, the more accepting I've become of senior year.
I'm tired of the school work and don't want to take finals. I find myself soaking in the friends I've had since preschool, new friends and annoying classmates, but I spend the most time soaking up the time with those friends I've only ever been "in school" friends with. We have bonded over pop quizzes, forgotten homework and teachers who put us to sleep.
I walk down the halls and can tell who the freshmen are who have the rest of high school to discover who they aren't. Leaving high school, that's how I've learned who I'm not. I don't quite know who I am, but that's what college is for, finding yourself. While high school is all about losing yourself.
