2. "A Very Large Expanse of Sea" By Tahereh Mafi
If you like YA books and like Tahereh Mafi, who wrote the YA bestseller "Shatter Me," then you'll enjoy her new novel! The book is about a 16-year-old Muslim girl named Shirin who struggles with the aftermath of 9/11. A year after 9/11, there is an overall turbulent and extreme prejudice towards Muslims, and Shirin faces prejudice from both teachers and students. It isn't until she meets a student named Ocean James that she begins to help her to let her guard down. The book is a must-read for the summer if you love YA books that discuss important issues.
3. "Mrs. Everything" by Jennifer Weiner

This is another book that has been recommended by several book clubs along with being one of the newest books on the bestseller list. If you enjoy books that discuss women's rights from the 1950s throughout each time period, then you'll enjoy this book! The story focuses on two sisters whose lives each change as they struggle to find what their place is in the world. 4. "On The Come Up" By Angie Thomas
If you enjoyed reading "The Hate You Give," then you'll enjoy this book. Angie Thomas wrote another book that focuses on how music such as hip-hop can be used as a powerful tool to spread awareness of issues such as police brutality. 5. "With The Fire On High" by Elizabeth Acevedo
This is a great YA book to check out if you enjoy books that offer a lot of diversity, especially if you enjoyed the author's previous YA novel "Poet X". The book features teenage girl who is Latino who after getting pregnant her Freshmen year focuses on her cooking as a way to escape the tough choices that she has had to make for her daughter. 6. "Circe" by Madeline Miller
If you love Greek mythology, I highly recommend trying to read this book over the summer! This book takes a close look at how goddesses have been portrayed in Greek mythology and how authors that were men could change how the women in mythology were perceived. It's a compelling summer book!
7. "The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides
If you love reading a good thriller or mystery when relaxing next to the pool or on the beach, you should check this book out! The story focuses on the wife of a famous painter who one day comes home and murders her husband and never speaks a word after the incident. As a forensic investigator begins looking into the case, and questions begin to rise on what exactly happened that caused a woman who lived a perfect life to murder her husband in cold blood.
8. "Opposite of Always" by Justin A. Reynolds
This is a great book to read if you enjoy YA books, and especially if you enjoy John Green books. The story focuses on two characters named Jack and Kate who meet at a party and begin falling in love. But when Kate dies and Jack somehow finds that he is able to travel back in time to the moment they meet, he is determined to find a way to prevent her death. The book has been compared to John Green and Nicola Yoon books, both popular YA authors. It's a light summer read and features a story that will keep you hooked until the end.
