Growing up in the 21st century, I've grown up with technology. I've slowly watched written letters disappear, while emails and text messages become more prevalent. At times it takes me 20 minutes to find a stationary kit in Wal-Mart....how sad is that? While I do send emails and text messages on a daily basis, I write letters too. I find that the connection you have with a person you frequently "write" is so much greater than a person you just "snapchat". So here are 10 Reasons Why Pen Pals Are The Best Pals.
1. They allow you to be yourself.
In today's society, we try so hard to impress people we often forget who we really are. Pen Pals don't judge and allow you to be who you truly are.
2. You have a connection you can't find anywhere else
In your lifetime you will meet so many different people, all whom you'll have a different type of connection with. A friendship with a pen pal though is real and honest. It's a very special relationship.
3. They share new things with you
In most cases, you and your pen pal do not live in the same area, and even if you do you are experiencing different things, when you write to your pal about these experiences it is like reading a book, a story someone has lived.
4. They teach you patience.
If you write letters you understand the anticipation of that long-awaited letter. There is nothing better than opening up your mailbox to find a beautiful sealed letter awaiting you.
5. They make you use your brain.
Pen Pals force you to put away the "text talk" and emoji's and actually use your brain. I know it's difficult to think about using actual words and sentences, but you can thank your pen pal one day for making you smarter.
6. They listen.
They don't interrupt or ignore you. They read every single word you write with such sincerity. They truly care.
7. They will always be there.
Even though you both love to write, if you ever need anything, you know they are always a phone call away. My pen pal and I became so close that I ended up being a bridesmaid in her wedding. I am so blessed to call her one of my greatest friends and know she will always be there for me.
*Shoutout for being the best! I love you girlie!
