7 Ways To Pull Of A Vacation At Home

It’s about that time of the summer when the vacation posts you see all over Facebook and Instagram are starting to get to you. Everyone looks so happy and sunshiney, and you would too...if you had saved more money, had more vacation days, or gotten out of whatever it is that’s keeping you stuck at home.

Luckily there are ways for you to soak up the relaxation and fun without leaving the comfort of your home. After all, why spend money when you don’t have to? Just remember, the number one rule of a stay-cation is to treat it like a real vacation - so that means no working!

Here are seven ways to pull off a vacation at home:

1. Get rid of technology.

One of the best ways to force yourself to take your mind (and your hands) off work things is by unplugging entirely from technology. I know this can be hard for our generation so start by unplugging for just a day. Plan activities for yourself so you don’t find yourself needing the internet. Walk the dog, make a big dinner, sit by the pool, etc.

2. Have a movie night.

Call your friends, order a pizza, and let yourself have an easy, fun night in! Pick a movie on Netflix or play Wii. Make some fun mocktails or cocktails and have a good laugh with your friends.

3. Put on some good music.

Having a good summer playlist is great to get yourself excited about the nice weather. Check out Spotify's summertime playlists and enjoy while you lay out and tan or take a drive with the windows down.

4. Read a book.

Remember all those books you said you’d get to when you finally had the time? Well, now’s that time and there’s plenty of summer reading suggestions out there. Grab a book and a cup of coffee and take an ~artsy~ picture for your Instagram.

5. Go camping.

If you have a backyard, you don’t have to travel very far to enjoy the great outdoors. Grab a tent and some blankets and camp in your backyard! Make a fire to cook your dinner, and, of course, some smores too!

6. Have a spa day.

An at-home spa day is an easy way to relax. Light some candles and set them around the (clean) bathroom. Make a face mask and hair mask, check out this article for a great hair mask! Take a nice soak in the tub with Epsom and essential oils while the masks set, and make sure you don't forget the cucumbers for your eyes!

7. Make some summertime treats.

What better way to top it all off with some awesome summertime treat, like a tropical smoothie or a coconut water fruit popsicle? Head to Pinterest to find a yummy, fruity treat!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
