Between college-level coursework and hours of studying, juggling a social life, going home to see your family, and working a job, trying to manage your time in college can be challenging. Thankfully, these seven simple tips will make your busy life seem a whole lot more manageable.

1. Utilize your cell phone calendar and set reminders weekly

Since almost everyone owns a cell phone nowadays and carries it on them 24/7 use it as a daily reminder for key events in your life like meetings, exams and homework. With a busy lifestyle it is easy to forget some things, this will help remind you during the day.

2. Buy a planner to take with you on the go

On top of using your cell phone, the good old-fashioned way is also a nice tool to have. If your phone ever dies on you this planner will come in handy. Having two places with reminders will help you to not forget that paper due next weekend.

3. Prioritize what you have to do

Do you really need to spend that extra 20 minutes winging that eyeliner? If your physical appearance or makeup is a high priority that is okay. Just ask yourself if something is worth the time you are putting into it.

4. Eat healthy to prevent from getting sick

One of the worst ways to mess up the next few weeks of your already bus lifestyle is to get sick and miss some days of school and work. That will set you back further and cause more stress. To prevent this, eat healthy fruits and veggies.

5. Focus on one thing at a time

I have been known to multi-task, constantly. I have Panopto on 1.25x speed all the while painting my nails and reading a book for a completely different class. Yeah, I do not recommend this at all. Instead, work on one thing at a time. This way you can get the most out of what you are focusing on. Whether it is a conversation with your Grandma on the phone or taking notes in lecture, focus on that. Do not stress yourself out by trying to do three things at once, and end up missing something or turning in crappy work.

6. Set aside one day a week for your own self-care

Self-care is so important. You spend your whole week working your butt off and at the end of each day, you just want to give up. I know we all feel that way sometimes. That is why it is essential you have a day set aside for just yourself. Take care of your body and let it be relaxed. Maybe you want to do yoga in the morning and a bath at night. Maybe it's just staying away from your phone for a couple hours that day, whatever you think your body and mind need, do it one day a week.

7. Do not forget to sleep

Along with self-care, sleep is also essential. Not getting enough sleep every night is inevitable for every single adult in the 21st Century but it is a necessity that you get your sleep. You want to finish one more chapter in your textbook, but if you do you risk losing another 30-45 minutes of sleep that night. Plan ahead, and finish it in the morning.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
