Oh Agg town, home of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas cowboys. You kept me entertained and well educated for my 18 years prior to college. You boast food and shopping at every corner. You ruined me for any town that doesn't have a Chipotle or Pei Wei.
Growing up in Arlington in the 2000s was honestly an awesome experience. Plentiful parks with awesome playgrounds, Six Flags Over Texas a mere 5 minutes from my house. Bowling alleys open past midnight, putt putt with real putting greens, shopping- oh the shopping. Let me tell you about the 7 ways that Arlington ruined me for my small college town.
1. Sports
Yeah, I'm talking about baseball, football, AND basketball (about a 30 minute drive). Growing up watching Rangers Ballpark fireworks from my backyard? Priceless.
2. Shopping
Shopping centers are a real thing in Arlington, as in theres more than one. The mall is two stories. IT HAS ICE SKATING RINK. --I'm sorry, thinking about all the shopping opportunities makes me so sad to be in this town with only an Old Navy and no GAP or Banana Republic. No J. Crew. No forever 21.
3. Food
My mouth is watering thinking about all the food you have access to in Arlington. Delicious hole-in-the-wall Mexican food. Pei Wei take out is like the bomb.com. Real frozen yogurt at every turn. Want something Arlington can't offer? Thats fine, just drive like 20 minutes in any direction and you will find MORE amazing food.
4. Gas Stations
I know this will seem weird, but honestly the gas stations are awesome. We have Alsups here in West Texas. In Arlington there's QuikTrip and Racetrack. Two of the greatest gas stations next to Bucees. I miss them so much.
5. Entertainment
I'm sorry but Arlington has like 5 bowling alleys, Six Flags, Alley Cats, Putt Putt, batting cages, parks, pools, movie theaters with amazing seats, summer concerts at the Levitt. The fun never stops. There is always something to do.
6. Grocery stores
Again, I know this is weird but honestly theses are things you don't think about until you are paying for your own groceries. Arlington has tons of place to shop for good prices and specialty things. They have a whole foods, and sprouts. They have Tom Thumb, Kroger, Walmart, a Super Target. We have Walmart and United in Abilene. Thats it.
7. A Super Target
Yes. I just gave the Target its own number on the list and I will not apologize. There is this beautiful super Target right in the center of Arlington and I could walk down its aisles every single day. I love you Target <3
Arlington, I know sometimes I say I've outgrown you, but I will never stop being appreciative of all the opportunities you afforded me, thanks for being America's dream city!
