The holiday season is upon us! Grab a cup of hot chocolate and head out the door to enjoy all of the fun Christmas events that are going on in and around Boone, NC!

1. Festival of Lights at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock(Nov 24, 2017 – Jan 28, 2018)

The Chetola Resort offers a display of gorgeous lights every winter season! The display lasts throughout the entire winter season and is free and open to the public. Take a group of friends or your significant other for a date night to see these gorgeous lights and the scenes around Chetola Lake!

2. Decorate Ornaments with Friends

Christmas break is a time full of relaxation and joy, but we always miss our college friends. Take a little piece of your friendship home by decorating ornaments with friends and exchanging them with each other before heading home for the holidays! A glance at the ornament on your tree will be a reminder that you will be back together with your friends soon enough!

3. Tweetsie Christmas (Weekends in December)

We all love Tweetsie- especially during this time of year! A ticket to Tweetsie Christmas is full of fun events and is a one-stop shop for all of your Christmas events. Christmas lights, caroling, live Christmas show and more! This event will be held every weekend for the remainder of December.

4. Bake Cookies

Let's face it- cookies aren't just for Santa. My roommates and I eat our fair share of cookies (or cookie dough if we're being real). One of my favorite Christmas activities is making sugar cookies and coating them in decorative icing. Or you could just eat the cookie dough... and then just eat the icing after!

5. Christmas Shopping on Kings Street

Kings Street is a Boone (and tourist) favorite! Right now Kings Street is full of beautiful Christmas lights, and is the ideal place to find your family and friends App State Christmas gifts! Stop by the Jones House to view the historic house decorated for the holidays.

6. Christmas Lights

I have spotted sparkling Christmas lights all around Watauga! Grab some friends, put on your Michael Buble Christmas playlist and drive around town to view all of the dazzling lights in our area.

7. Christmas Party with Friends!

Last, but certainly not least, THROW A CHRISTMAS PARTY! Before going home for Christmas, my friends and I are having a Christmas party with homemade hot chocolate, Secret Santa, and Christmas movies! This is a great way to do something fun with your friends and get in the holiday spirit, not to mention getting a break from finals!

Have a great holiday season, and make sure you get involved in all of your community events this year!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
