Each and every day there is something I worry about. Something that makes me a little anxious or worrisome. However, God says to us, do not worry and do not be afraid. These are some verses that encourage me to depend on him in my time of anxiety.
1. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6
I love this verse because so many times I get caught in trying to make my own plans and my own future and it gets confusing and blurry. But when I rely on God and give it to him, my vision becomes so much clearer.
2. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus is speaking to the people who are tired and long for rest in this passage, and this verse gives me that same rest and peace.
3. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
Before Jesus was crucified, he was telling his disciples that he was leaving them, but for them not to be afraid. He wasn't abandoning them and leaving them broken. He was leaving them with peace of knowing that he will be with them.
4. "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken." Psalms 55:22
So many times we let earthly things sustain us like relationships, or getting good grades. But, God says that if we cast our cares on him, he will sustain us. Which is so much better than sustaining ourselves on manmade things.
5. "Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up." Proverbs 12:25
Discouragement is one of Satan's biggest weapons he uses against us and it is important that we are aware of that and fight against it. You never know how powerful words can be.
6. "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." Psalms 23:4
The Lord is our shepherd and he leads us into his goodness and peace. We can be sure that even though we go through hard times, he will be there to hold our hand through it all.
7. "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, not anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39
To know that nothing can separate us from the Father's love is so mind blowing. God loves us so much that he won't let anything come between him and his children.
It's so easy to let the little things get us down and make us worry, but God says that he will give us peace and rest if we trust him. Dependence on him is the starting point of finding true peace.
