People always tell you about the big things that happen when you go to college but often omit the little things. These little things, for me at least, came out of nowhere. These things may be unexpected or not often talked about. They may be blissful or they may suck a lot. Either way, they are all a part of the freshman college experience so get ready for them

1. Twin beds start to feel big.

I’ve had a full-size bed for as long as I can remember. Because of this, the thought of a twin bed intimidated me. But after a few weeks, I found that nothing was different. I still prefer my bed though.

2. You miss your friends' dogs.

If you’re anything like me and my friends then you probably find yourselves talking about your dogs constantly. We know everything about each other's dogs and have seen more pictures of them than their actual family. It’s gotten to a point where someone's mom will send a picture of their dog and we’ll all say “aw I miss them” even though we’ve never met them.

3. You’ll still break out.

When I was younger I thought that the second I got out of high school my acne would go away. Don’t ask me why I thought that I just did. Let’s just say that is 100% not the case.

4. Your phone will start to recognize the weird names you use for things.

Some of the buildings around campus have strange names or nicknames and when you use them daily your phone will start to pick up on them. It’s a strange day when your phone starts to recognize names like Gallahue, Schrott, and Clowes.

5. You’ll always be sick.

College is a cesspool. The moment my friends and I stepped onto campus, we all had stuffy noses. There are a lot of germs your body probably isn’t used to yet, so just remember to wash your hands and bring cold medicine with you.

6. You’re going to lose friends.

It’s the sad truth. People always told me that your first semester friends are not going to be your forever friends but I didn’t want to believe them. But it happened to me and it will probably happen to you.

7. You’re going to fall in love.

Whether it’s that one dessert in the dining hall, the kid carrying a scooter across campus, or just your school in general, you’re going to find love in some way. More often than not though, it's the dessert- just a warning.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
