So you decided to take a college creative writing class. Whether or not you have a writing background, you'll be sure to encounter one of these.

Or perhaps you are one already...

1. The BS-er

Yes it's possible they'll just rush through their work, but that's not the kind of BS-ing going on here. This person is just there for the "easy A," whether or not they're an English major. However, when they learn that writing isn't as easy as they claim, the ones who actually care feel a sense of schadenfreude.

2. The Noob

Unlike the BS-er, the Noob actually cares about writing, however, it's very likely their first time, or maybe they've written one thing before taking the class. It's kind of adorable to see them all excited about the writing world, but at the same time, you feel sorry for them. Once they've taken the plunge, they'll never be the same again.

3. The Wordsworth

There's always that one person in a creative writing class that can write the most amazing poems. How do they do it in such a short time period? How do they get the rhyme and rhythm in place? Why are you crumpling up your own assigned poem as you're listening? The world may never know.

4. The Beelzebub/Lillith

DEATH!!! This person loves to write about pain. Maybe they are or were emo? Maybe they have a tough home life? Or they're a sadist? Or maybe they just need an outlet for emotions. They're willing to put their characters through the absolute worst for the sake of the plot. Murphy's Law is way beyond a law for this one.

5. The Artist

What even is this? This person is all about the "creative" part of creative writing. They're probably the one that wrote that one story that either is incredibly simple or makes no sense that's apparently supposed to have a deeper meaning. Or maybe writing is not the only area they're gifted in, and they can draw their characters. Either way, this one definitely stands out.

6. The Memoir Machine

Okay, so the best plots often come from real life. This person lays it on real thick. Even when the assignment is a fiction story or poem, they need to relate it to their life in some way. Is their life that interesting? Are they self-absorbed? Do they simply have a magical ability to be inspired by anything around them? If they do, you seriously want to know their secret. You'd never get writer's block again!

7. The Veteran

You heard that sigh too? This person's been writing for a long while before taking the class and is likely only taking it for a major requirement. They already know a lot of what the professor's talking about, and maybe disagrees with some of it. Their stories are usually awesome compared to some of the others, and they're trying their hardest not to judge when people don't know the basics. Chill, it's an Intro course.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
