I live in an apartment with five other girls on my campus. We all have completely different, yet complementary personality types that mesh well together. Something we all have different opinions on, though, is music. Personally, I enjoy punk rock and metal music. One girl enjoys alternative music, while others enjoy pop, rap and hip-hop. You can even hear the occasional country song coming from one of the bedrooms. While we have never argued about what types of music we have listened to, we have come to an unspoken agreement on songs that we all enjoy hearing. Below is a list of songs and artists that I noticed are enjoyed by everyone in my apartment.

1. Old-School Taylor Swift

Currently, our cork board in our kitchen has a sheet of paper attached on it that reads "What was the last good Taylor Swift album?: Speak Now, Red, or Fearless." About 80% of the time, you can hear some sort of OLD (emphasis on the old) Taylor Swift playing from the apartment.

2. One Direction

We are nineteen year olds that are still obsessed with this former boyband. If we aren't blasting and screaming along to Taylor Swift, it is incredibly likely that One Direction is on. Most girls our age went through a slightly unhealthy obsession with these five musicians and the music that they produced. Most of these girls also still know all of the lyrics to their songs, even after they have split up and begun their individual careers.

3. 2009 Hits

"I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas, "Day 'N' Nite" by Kid Cudi, "Knock You Down" by Keri Hilson, "Fire Burning" by Sean Kingston, and "Down" by Jay Sean are just a few examples of hits from this year that often come up on our 'Throwback' playlists. Somehow, we still are able to recall all of the words to songs we have not intentionally listened to since 2009.

4. Disney Hits

"Under the Sea" and "A Whole New World" are two incredible Disney masterpieces that my apartment loves to listen to. "Let It Go" is a modern addition to the Disney musical collection that often creates a harmony of voices whenever it comes on. As girls that were born and raised on Disney classics, we cannot help spending our days jamming to the hits.

5. Disney Channel Hits

These are much different than Disney hits. These include songs from shows, such as Hannah Montana, as well as shows from movies, like High School Musical. Mainly, though, this category focuses on the music of actors turned musicians: the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus. Cyrus's "The Climb" is a song that you can't help but sing along to.

6. Overplayed Radio Songs

No matter how many times we hear Justin Bieber's "Despacito" or Drake's "Passionfruit", we will still continue to play them nonstop. Halsey and the Chainsmokers have probably sung "Closer" millions of times through the speakers of someone's phone in our apartment. It doesn't matter how sick of them we claim to be, we still listen to them on replay.

7. Ed Sheeran

While Divide has been Sheeran's recent album dominating the radio, my friends and I love to listen to all of his hits throughout the years. "A Team" even comes on once in awhile. Our personal favorite, though, is "You Need Me Man, I Don't Need You", a completely underrated bop that if you know the lyrics, you'll be yelling them.

Overall, my analysis on mutually enjoyed music reveals that throwbacks are most enjoyed amongst large groups. The combination of these artists and genres have certainly been approved of by the six girls in my apartment. The next year will definitely be spent jamming out to them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
