Moms rock. They know you better than anyone on this Earth (and they won't let you forget it), so when you went away to college, your life seemed a little bit emptier. You didn't realize all of the things that your mom did for you before you moved out. Now that you're on your own, you haven't eaten a meal in days and you're having a horrible day--you're just completely hopeless.
When one of these seven things happen to you, you wonder why you ever moved away in the first place:
1. When you’re sick
You never actually realized how unbearable being sick is until the first time you got sick at college. The worst is that you never realized how bad you were at taking care of yourself until you were forced to. Do you eat when you have a cold or the flu? Is this just a cold or is it something more? You have no idea, but you know who does? Your mom.
2. When you need to go to the doctor or make an appointment
Who knew how stressful it would be to call your doctor or dentist to make an appointment? Your mom, apparently. Now you're 19, and it's just weird if your mom calls to schedule your appointments. So you call and you stutter trying to spell out your name and when they ask if Tuesday at 11 a.m. is okay for you, you say okay even though you know that you have class, but you're too afraid to tell them no... It's their job to work with you. And filling out paperwork? Forget it, you barely remember why you came to the doctor in the first place, let alone your family's medical history.
3. When you haven’t had dinner in three weeks
It's not that you can't cook (even though you kinda can't), it's that you just can't seem to remember to eat dinner. Somehow you always seem to be busy during dinner (and lunch and occasionally breakfast), and you never in a million years thought that you'd actually forget a meal, but you do it all the time. Your mom, however, always remembers dinner and always reminds you to eat something. Who knew, right?
4. When you had a bad day and you really need a hug
No one can hug you like your mom can hug you. So, when everything seems to be going wrong and all you want is a hug from your mom, college can seem pretty lonely. You can call her, but it's not the same. You never realized how much of a privilege it was to always have your mom around to hug you when you were down. But now that you're in college, that much is abundantly clear.
5. When you had a great day and no one else can match your excitement
Being excited is even better when you get to be excited with someone else. It's 100 times better when that person is your mom. She somehow always matches your level of excitement about any great (or small) accomplishment you could ever begin to mention. Before you even get the first word out, she's already sensed your mood and is already on that level right there with you. That's the beauty of a mother-child relationship.
6. When you need someone to vent to
Even if she's not exactly sure of the right advice (who are we kidding, she's always sure), she's always there to listen. You can go on and on for hours and she won't complain about it for a second. The best part is, she asks nothing for it in return. Her advice and her phenomenal listening skills come with no strings; she just listens to you talk and talk and talk until you can't talk anymore. As an added bonus, if you're mad about something or someone, she's just as mad as you are.
7. When you just need some kind words of affirmation
Even if you hate compliments, compliments from your mom are like water; you need them to survive. She always gives the right compliment at the right moment. What's even better is that she never uses the same compliment twice. Somehow she always has a new kind thing to say about you. So even at your lowest, your mom is right their to pick you up and remind you that you're amazing.
