7 Thoughts Every UNC Student Has Had This Summer

Summer's great and all, but I'm really starting to miss the mac-and-cheese in Lenoir.

Now, I know no one wants to talk about it, but summer is officially halfway over. I know, I know, but we can only deny this harsh reality so long.

I recently read an article titled 17 Thoughts College Students Have While Home For The Summer. While most of the thoughts were 100% accurate, especially #4, I thought I'd take a different approach and explore thoughts exclusive to us Tar Heels.

Here are 9 thoughts I can safely assume all Tar Heels have had over the last two months:

1. Remember that time we won the National Championship?

It doesn't even bother me when people ask about that night, because I love re-living it through the thousands of pictures I then force them to look at.

2. I'd kill for an Alpine bagel right about now.

Rise and Shine on sun-dried tomato... PLS.

3. Life is so much easier with a OneCard.

I can't wait to only have to use one card for *everything* again.

4. "Carolina" does not mean UNC Charlotte, UNC Asheville, or any other UNC college. It's Chapel Hill.

I've had about thirteen conversations over the last two months that went exactly like this:

Stranger/Family Member/Dentist/Deborah from church: "Now, where do you go again?"

Me: "Carolina."

Stranger/Family Member/Dentist/Deborah from church: ??

Me: "UNC-Chapel Hill."

5. Paying for food is the worst.

Let's get back to free insomnia and pizza and snacks pretty much everywhere every day.

6. There's nothing to do...

I can't wait to have a planner full of theme nights and concerts and papers and lab reports: oh, my!

7. How about that National Championship, though?

Enjoy the rest of your summer, Tar Heels. I'll see you in August.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
