Summer is coming to an end and that can only mean one thing for fall sports athletes…. PRESEASON! When you're an athlete in your preseason, soreness can help you realize that there are muscles in places you didn't know there were muscles, you might accidentally overdose on Advil and you calculate exactly how many milliseconds of sleep you can get in between practices.
You also get excited to get back on the court/field and be surrounded by your teammates and coaches, who quickly become your second family. No matter when your season is, these are five thoughts that most athletes have when their summer season is coming to a close and their fall season is just about in full swing.
1. Am I ready for this?
You can't help but get a little anxious when you think of the expectations you, along with your coaches and teammates, have set for the upcoming season.
2. Why did I eat that donut a month and a half ago?
So many regrets about the off-season. Should've stuck to the "no-off-season" mentality.
3. What is running?
Don’t worry, your coaches will surely remind you.
4. I should probably say goodbye to my life.
Even if you survive preseason, practices, games and team bonding; the sport as a whole will take up every second of your free time for the next three months.
5. Maybe I should quit?
My couch is looking better and better with each day. Every sprint that we have to do increases my wanting for a shower, couch and TV. I could be sitting at home watching Netflix instead of sweating on the field miserably.
Even though pre-season can be difficult and tiring, you remember that you'll get through it with your team playing the sport you love.
