7 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Back In High School

No matter what high school you go to, we can all agree it flew by faster than expected. With some (a lot) of bumps in the road, you slowly progress through four quarters of four years and in the blink of an eye high school is over. It wasn't easy, in fact, at times it wasn't fun at all. Personally, there are some things some people could've said that would've helped me more than I can explain. Here are just a few:

1. One bad grade won't matter.

Even though your teacher says this grade is twenty percent of your final grade, one bad grade isn't the end of the world. If I have learned anything, it's that sleep is just as important than that exam you're up till 2 a.m. studying for. One bad grade isn't going to fail you for the year, so take care of yourself along the way. Get some sleep, eat some food, and relax instead of worrying so much about one grade. Because when you look back, it won't matter.

2. Boys are immature.

Your mom will tell you this time and time again, trust me. You'll think you found the right guy, but they'll turn out to be a jerk. You'll walk down the halls thinking boys are staring at your ass, because they are. They'll still make farting sounds in the back of the class and laugh at poop jokes. They don't grow up.

3. Friends are everything.

I lucked out with such an amazing group of friends that made my four years of high school amazing. You need to find a great group of friends that'll ease the troubles of high school. When you're having a bad day, they'll be the people sitting at the lunch table waiting for you to laugh with. Friends are so important!!!!

4. Get on your teachers' good side.

Every school has that one teacher you swear is a hundred years old, will never retire, and yells at kids for a living. If there's one piece of advice I have, it's to get on their good side. Being on a teachers bad side will make that one year you have them if not the rest of your high school career unbearable.

5. Remember to have fun.

You're constantly competing in school, in the classroom and on the sports field and it gets tiring. Being a student athlete especially you sometimes forget to take a breather. Just relax, get comfy, and remember to have fun. Going out once every other week or so isn't bad for you. Enjoy being in high school.

6. Attend all sporting events.

I've been out of high school for two months and I already regret not going to everything senior year. Although you have no friends on the baseball team, why not go and support anyway? Tennis isn't that entertaining to watch but go and make a day of it with some friends. Make some memories and cheer people on, because there's nothing else like high school sports.

7. Take care of yourself.

With the stress of grades, sports, getting into college, and doing volunteer work, people forget how tiring it can get. When you finally have a day to yourself it's like you have no idea what to do with it. Enjoy it and do something worth doing. Four years will go by very slowly if you're constantly doing things and not taking care of yourself. Avoid drama and petty people, be happy.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
