Whenever I am sick, I find myself laying in my bed scrolling through various social media platforms, bored out of my mind. I usually do not have the energy to think of fun things to do, let alone do them. Instead, I lay there staring at my phone screen or binge watching a TV show I have seen a million times. For all the other bored, sick teenagers out there, here are some fun things to do when you are feeling under the weather.
1. Curl up with a good book.

2. Have a movie marathon.
Watching the same TV series can get boring and redundant at times. If you start to zone out during a Friends or Grey’s Anatomy episode, then go on Netflix or Hulu or your TV and find a few movies you have been meaning to watch or have never even heard of before. Pop some popcorn. Brew some tea. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
3. Bake.
Whenever I get sick, I always crave some baked goods. Scrolling through my Facebook, I see tons of videos on how to make cheesecake and brownies. If you are well enough to bake, then I would recommend going online and finding a yummy recipe from Tasty or Buzzfeed Food and have at it!
4. Learn something new.
Being sick, you have quite a bit of time on your hands so why not utilize it to its fullest potential? Learn how to play a new song on the guitar or piano. Go online and watch some new makeup tutorials. Watch a video on the theory of the universe. Learn about something you find exciting and you won’t stay bored for long.
5. Go for a walk.
If you are deathly ill, then this idea might not be the best for you. However, if you are well enough, try going for a nice, slow walk around the block to get some fresh air and get out of your stuffy room.
6. Pick up a new hobby.
Being sick doesn’t just happen once; it is usually a recurrent phenomenon. So, some people decide to pick up a “sick hobby,” or an activity they do whenever they are feeling under the weather. Sick hobbies include knitting a blanket, making a scrapbook, and writing a book. Virtually anything relaxing and stress free qualifies as a sick hobby.
7. Call your mom. Or someone.
Is there someone you haven’t reached out to in a while? If you have a friend or family member ( like your mom) that you haven’t spoken to, then call them and catch up. See how they are doing and tell them about anything new in your life. Call, text, and email away. Now would be the perfect time to do it!
