When I tell people I am from Texas, I am instantly asked a thousand different questions about it. In my first few weeks of college, I have been asked so many different questions. Here are a few of my favorites.
"Have you ever seen snow before?"
"Do you ride a horse?"
Do you drive a tractor because you live in Indiana? No, I live in a suburb of Dallas. I do not have a horse, and I especially do not ride a horse.
"Do you like the Cowboys?"
Just because I live in Dallas does not mean I am a Cowboys fan. I honestly do not even watch football, so I am indifferent about the subject.
"Do you have 'Bring your horse to school' day?
What I have learned about Indiana is that some towns actually have "Bring your tractor to school" day. The thing about Texas is once again, I live in a suburb, so I do not have a horse; but if I did where would we put them?? In the parking lot???
"Do you come from oil money?"
No, not everyone from Texas has a family who works for an oil company. We have jobs other than oil and farming in Texas.
"Have you driven to Mexico?"
It is literally quicker for me to drive from Dallas to Chicago than it is to get across Texas. People who live in Texas do not vacation in Mexico on a weekend trip.
"Do you live on a farm?"
No, I do not live on a farm. I live in a house with a pool and a yard. If you don't believe me here is a picture of my yard.
"Do you have a gun?"
NO. We do not all have guns. Yes we are more likely to have people walking down the street with a weapon on them than other places in the US, but not everyone owns a gun where I live.
Stop watching what you see in movies and actually go travel to Texas to see what my way of life is like. From what I have noticed, we live in nearly the same location except people in the south have that southern hospitality.
