While many of us consider our colleges our home, our parents would beg to differ and insist we visit once in a while. Going home can be exciting, annoying, stressful, joyful, but often times- much needed. No matter how you feel about going home, you're bound to realize some of these seven things.
1. Your weird habits don’t transfer well into the real world
Pizza for breakfast? Bread and ramen for dinner? Staying awake until 4am? Yeah, normal people apparently don’t act like this.
2. Things cost actual money
It’s so easy at school to just swipe your meal card and eat to your heart’s desire. Dining halls and convenience stores on campus have almost every food you can think of so eat whatever you want. Can’t say the same for food in your house so you have to go out and spend real money.
3. Your hygiene sucks
I’m hoping this one isn’t just me, but this was something I realized once I noticed my parents showering every day if not twice a day. At school, it’s just easier sometimes to grab some baby wipes and call it a day.
4. There are still rules
My parents let up once I went to college, but they still like to know where I am and want me to come home at a reasonable time. They don’t need to know about any of the times I’ve come home when at the same time they were getting up to start their day.
5. The world still turns while you're not home
Your family still lives their own lives while you’re away. Little siblings grow up, your parents re-decorate the house, etc. Sometimes this one is a hard one to swallow.
6. You really are exhausted
Every college kid says they’re tired and stressed but you don’t realize how tired you are until you come home and sleep in your own bed for 13 hours straight.
7. There really is no place like home
Cozy bed, private shower, home cooked meals, visiting old friends, no worrying about schoolwork, and as many hugs as you want from your parents. Going home really isn’t all bad.
