7 Things My Mom Does That I Took For Granted As A Child

She seriously does it all and so much more.

7 Things My Mom Does That I Took For Granted As A Child

As I enter into my early adult years and start carrying out some of the tasks that "adulting" entail, I am realizing how much I have taken my mom and all she does for granted. She always seem to magically keep the house spotless, know where every lost item is, and somehow manage to keep all of us in check. Unlike my mom, I still cannot flawlessly function and perform the daily tasks the way she has. So, here are 7 things that my mom does that I took for granted:

1. Cleaning dishes

In the morning, I would always leave my dirty breakfast dishes in the sink and when I got home they were back in the cabinet, perfectly clean. Now when I leave my dirty dishes in the sink and come home later, they are still sitting there staring right back at me. Thank you, Mom, for always doing my dishes

2. Laundry

I definitely took this one for granted. My mom does piles and piles of laundry everyday, folds all the clothes neatly and places them in our rooms. All we have to do is simply put them away. However, now that I am an adult, I dread doing laundry and most of the time, I wait until I am down to my last pair of underwear before I even start a load of laundry. Thank you, Mom, for always making sure I had clean clothes.

3. Driving

Soccer practice, school, sleepovers and more, my mom drove me everywhere and did not think twice about it. Now, it's up to me to get where I need to go (and make sure I have enough gas to get there). Thank you, Mom, for always being my chauffeur.

4. Packing lunches

My mom is a pro at this. She packs the best lunches and always left me a cute little note on a napkin and placed it into my lunch box. But, now that I am in college and cannot rely on mom to pack my lunch, I have learned to live on granola bars and Wawa. I seriously do not know where she found the time to make me a homemade lunch every day. Thank you, Mom, for always making sure I was fed.

5. Taking care of finances

Money grows on trees right? Wrong. I am so fortunate to have parents that have always supported me financially, but I still took all their efforts to support me for granted. College, textbooks, gas, and basic essentials all start to add up after a while. Thank you, Mom, for always making sure I had what I needed.

6. Doctor appointments

Oh, how I wish I could still sit on my mom's lap when I get blood drawn or get shots. But, as an adult I have to schedule appointments, cancel appointments, and drive to the appointments. And let me tell you, it is not fun. Thank you, Mom, for taking me to all of my doctor appointments.

7. Working

Going to college and doing daily responsibilities is stressful enough. Throw in a job on top of it and free time is just no longer part of the picture. My mom always made sure we had a tidy house and managed to work full time. She's basically a super hero with amazing powers. Thank you, Mom, for showing me what hard work really means.

My mom is incredible and does so much for my entire family. I cannot thank her enough for all that she does and all that she has taught me to be. She has been my greatest role model and I aspire to someday acquire all of her "mom powers".

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
