Most baseball games are routine 9-inning games. The Boston Red Sox, however, have managed to accumulate the most extra-inning games this season than ever before, and, unsurprisingly, when I went to see them, they played a full eleven innings before claiming the victory. In addition to the extended length of games, there are other integral things that happen at Fenway.
1. The Wave
It may take a few tries before it makes its way around the entire park, but it's a fun way to keep between-inning periods exciting!
2. Wally appearances
The iconic green mascot for the Sox never misses a game!
3. Random fans running onto the field
Even though this is from many seasons ago, there was indeed a fan who decided to run onto the field (and made it quite far before being apprehended) at the game I attended. It never fails.
4. "Moo" chants when Mookie Betts steps up
Mookie has been batting first in the lineup for a good chunk of the season thus far, so when he steps up to bat, it's difficult not to cheer.
5. People talking with Boston accents
The accent is especially noticeable when the concession hawkers (people who sell food throughout the game) yell out "Get your hot dog here!" If you can imagine a Boston accent, you can probably imagine how they say the word "here".
6. Home runs into the Green Monster
When you see the Green Monster on TV, you have a basic understanding of how distant it is from home plate and how tall it really is. Seeing it in person, however, makes you realize how hard the ball has to be hit for it to make it that far-- pretty damn hard!
7. A good time!
No matter the outcome of the game, seeing one in person is an experience like no other.
