The finals survival guide.

It's that time of year again. Finals are right around the corner, everyone is stressing out, that time of year when you panic because this is your last attempt to raise your GPA. But there are a few things that we need to remember in the chaos of finals week to make things just a bit more bearable and to do a little self care.

Survival tip number one: Drink plenty of water.

It’s easy to forget to drink water during the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and even more difficult to remember to drink water during the crazy chaos of finals week. Water is very important to our bodies and to keep us healthy. So, it is very important to remember to drink water so that you don’t get behind on your water intake during this crazy time of the semester.

Survival tip number two: make sure to take breaks.

You are already making sure that you are studying, but breaks help keep your mind fresh and sharp to make sure that you can absorb the most optimal amount of information that you possibly can. It also helps decrease stress because you’re taking the time in your busy schedule to relax

Survival tip number three: make sure to make (a little) time for your friends.

Just like with breaks, it is good to spend time with your friend because they are stressing about finals just as much as you are. And a reminder for everyone to take a little break to let their brains get a chance to refresh and recharge.

Survival tip number four: get plenty of sleep.

While studying for finals, it’s easy to think that an all-nighter will be the saving grace for a problem, but it’s been proven that it will do you more harm than good. Even though it is tempting to pull an all night to study just a little bit more for that final in the morning, remember that a good nights rest will do you much better than that night of studying.

Survival tip number five: have plenty of junk food (especially chocolate.)

Studying for finals is very stressful. So, making sure to have plenty of junk food and comfort food around, will help you help cheer you up when you are feeling down from all the studying. Chocolate is also been proven to be a mood booster, so here is a good excuse to eat all the chocolate that you want.

Survival tip number six: stay away from Netflix.

Netflix is a wonderful site, but while you’re trying to study for finals it distracts you from getting done the things that you actually need to get done. But if you do decide to watch it, try setting a timer to make sure to remind you of how long you’ve actually been watching it, because it is easy to lose track of time while watching your favorite TV show or movie

Survival tip number seven: lighten your workload.

Explain to your family, your significant other, friends, and to your work, that you need a little extra free time in the next two weeks because of the final. After you have explained then they will surely understand why you need this time make sure that you can take the time to do the absolute best that you can do in your finals. This will also help keep you from being spread thin by trying to manage your relationships and extracurricular activities along with your homework.

Good luck everyone! Study hard! And eat lots of chocolate!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
