Winter break has come to a close, and it’s time for the next nightmare to begin: spring semester. You remember signing up for your classes, right? Way back in like October or November or some other date that seemed way too early?
Well, it’s time to get ready to actually take those classes now. Get ready for days of procrastination and never getting enough sleep. Hooray, college! What’s that, you don’t know what you’re supposed to be doing? Well, neither does anyone else.
Here’s a basic guide on how getting ready for the new semester generally happens.
1. Hastily trying to pack everything to move back in
Chances are you went home for the winter, and all of your stuff is strewn about your room and house. Now you have to hastily throw everything into your bags and get ready to go back to school.
This isn’t even mentioning thinking about all the different things you have to bring. What do you take and leave behind? Do you really need to bring all your stuff for winter? So many decisions, so little time.
2. Saying goodbye to your dog again
The worst part of going back to school: not being able to see your dog (or other pets) anymore. Say one last tearful goodbye to Fido; we all know he’s the only family member you’ll truly miss.
3. Reminding yourself what classes you signed up for
You signed up for these classes in what, November? That was months ago. Time to check what you’re actually taking - oh god, you signed up for that? What were you thinking?
4. Ordering all your books en masse from Amazon
As you didn’t think about your classes all winter, you need to get all those books. Your wallet cries as you order a million things all at once from Amazon, praying that they arrive before you truly need them.
5. Trying to get yourself on a normal sleep schedule
Tell me I wasn’t the only one going to sleep at 2 in the morning and waking up at 11 all of winter break. Well, that sleep schedule is not going to work with those bright and early 8 AM classes. Use the few days before classes start back up to start going to bed a little early and get yourself back on track. Chances are you’ll end up sitting awake in bed for hours, but hey, at least you tried.
6. Constantly reassuring yourself that yes, you need and want this degree
All this prep is hell, and you’re starting to realize how underprepared you are for all of this. So a couple of times a day, when things get really hard, you need to just take a moment and tell yourself that yes, this will all be worth it.
7. Ultimately being late or unprepared for your first class
Despite your best efforts, you are probably going to end up being late to your first class, if you don’t end up sleeping through the entire thing. In the unlikely event that you aren’t late, you’re going to be completely unprepared. You won’t have any pencils, pens, paper, anything. It’ll just be you, your phone, and some stress, because life, especially college life, likes to kick you in the butt. Happy new semester!
