7 Signs That Senior Year Is Just Around The Corner

There comes a point where everyone realizes that what you are working towards is becoming a reality. For many, that point is spring semester junior year because you spend so much time making plans for senior year -- from scheduling and housing to future leadership positions. The following are some of the signs that senior year is truly around the corner.

1. That meeting with your academic advisor.

Either the conversation is all about how confused they are that you are still here, or they are telling you that you barely have any classes left and can graduate, but you do not want to graduate early. Or they look at all the classes you still need to graduate, and the only solution is summer school. No matter what, you are walking across that stage in May with everyone you started with four years ago.

2. Everyone is asking everyone what they are doing for housing next year.

For you, the realization is that this is your last housing process. You have trouble coping with the fact that this is it. You only get one more housing group, you have to decide which place on campus is going to be your home for your fourth and final year on campus.

3. Your thesis.

The classes you have left are your capstone or senior project, or your thesis. If you are lucky, you have been thinking about what you wanted the final project to be. But for most of us, we have so many thoughts in our head of what we would like to do but are struggling to pick one. It is happening and we cannot stop it. So we have to just buckle down and do it.

4. It is time to step up.

Spring semester junior year is when some of us have decided that it is finally time to do more than just be a member of a club, or we are looking for that job promotion. You know those opportunities are what you want to be on your resume when you graduate next May, so you are just hoping fingers crossed that you will get the chance to see what you can do.

5. Speaking of your resume...

Everyone is aware of that light at the end of the tunnel. The goal is to get a job, so while you are in college it is all about building up your resume to give you the best possible shot at getting your dream job. So you start looking at everything in your life as a resume builder, and if something is not, you consider dropping that activity.

6. It is all about the internship.

One of the biggest parts of that resume is job experience. It is the spring semester of your junior year and you spend so much time applying for summer internships. Hopefully, that internship will give you a job after graduation and it is that internship that will once and for all you know what you want to do with your life.

7. It feels a little like the end.

You are starting to feel that it is the beginning of the end. You know what you are working towards, but people are telling you that they are going to miss you, and you find yourself starting to make plans for after graduation even though it is over a year in the future. The end is coming and you can feel it.

All of these are signs of an end, but it is what you do when you begin to feel these signs that make all the difference. You know senior year is around the corner, but you are ready to take it on and make it the best year of your life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
