It's no secret that life as a college student can be stressful. At minimum we are expected to maintain good grades at school, get a professional internship, and even work a part time job. All of those activities are very time consuming and can leave us with a lot on our plate everyday. However, if you feel like you dread going to work on a regular basis and can't wait until it's time to clock out after every shift than it's time to reconsider. While it's important to make money for yourself and to start being independent, your job shouldn't be negatively affecting your overall happiness. Below are 7 signs you should leave your current job.
1. You dread going in to work
Every time you walk into work it basically feels like the world is ending. You also contemplate calling out for hours leading up to your shift and countdown the minutes until you can clock out!
2. You can't stand your coworkers or boss
Honestly, the people you work with really determine if your going to have a good experience or not. Working with negative or destructive people will eventually drag you down. Do yourself a favor and refuse to work with negative or rude people.
3. You don't get paid fairly or on time
This is a huge red flag!! Recently, I worked a job where I had to beg for a whole week about getting paid and when they finally decided to pay me they tried to give me an Amazon gift card as compensation! Always figure out how payment will work when you start at a new job and leave any job that under pays or pays illegally. Those jerks do not respect you or care about you!
4. They don't give you fair breaks
Everyone is entitled to a break during a long shift. I worked a job before where the boss expected me to take the phone to the bathroom on my break so I didn't miss a single call during my shift. That is pathetic and gross! You deserve a fair break so stand up for yourself and leave if your work is pushing you too hard.
5. You don't care about the company at all
If you don't care about what you are selling or what service you are providing than you are inevitably not going to give 100% effort. You probably feel drained after work and the company is not benefiting from an employee who could care less. Find a job that is more in line with your interests and passions!
6. You still have not gotten a raise
If you've asked for a raise more than twice and have been with the company for a long time than it's probably smart to invest your time in a different job. You should work where there is opportunity to grow and move up if you plan on working at the same place for a year or more. Plus, not being rewarded for hard work sucks!
7. You're uncomfortable
Whether you feel personally threatened by coworkers or even just awkward sharing your ideas or thoughts, if your gut is telling you something is off than you need to listen to it. Respect yourself and your worth and don't waste your time feeling uncomfortable or abused in the workplace.
