Now that summer is coming to a close, you can get back into your school-year routine (aka watching Netflix when you should be studying). If you're looking for a new show or two to mix up your usual watch-list, check out these seven awesome series!
1. Castle (8 seasons)
Richard Castle is a New York Times bestselling mystery novelist. After killing the main character of his successful “Derrick Storm” series, he is forced back to the drawing board. He draws his inspiration for his new murder mystery series from NYPD homicide detective Kate Beckett. Together, the two work together and form an unlikely team to solve murders. The show chronicles NYPD’s murder investigations as well as Beckett and Castle’s love-hate relationship.
2. Bones (12 seasons)
"Bones" is the nickname of forensic anthropologist, Dr. Temperance Brennan. Brennan works in the forensic anthropology lab at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington D.C. Brennan’s team is sought out by the FBI to help Special Agent Seeley Booth ascertain information about unidentifiable remains of murder victims and solve their murders.
3. Grey’s Anatomy (13 seasons)
Grey’s Anatomy is a medical drama that profiles the lives of surgeons at Seattle Grace Hospital in Seattle, Washington. The hospital is filled with rare cases and complicated relationships. The show focuses on Dr. Meredith Grey, the daughter of a famous surgeon, and follows her relationships and career from her time as an intern through her time as an attending.
4. Gossip Girl (6 seasons)
Gossip Girl is an anonymous blogger who sends out gossip alerts about the scandalous lives of the privileged teens of the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Two of her favorite victims are Serena Van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf. Serena is blonde and beautiful and, despite her troubled past, is everyone’s favorite. Blair is the Queen Bee of Constance Billard School for Girls and is constantly trying to undermine her way to the top. The show follows Serena and Blair’s dramatic friendship and luxurious lives throughout high school and college.
5. Hart of Dixie (4 seasons)
Zoe Hart has her heart set on one thing: becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon in New York City. However, after being rejected by the residency program at her hospital, her life is turned upside down. She is offered a job at a small family practice in the remote and very tight-knit town of Bluebell, Alabama, and despite her instincts, she accepts it. Zoe must try to win over the hearts of Bluebell’s residents and win the trust of Brick Breeland, the other doctor in the practice.
6. Royal Pains (8 seasons)
After getting fired from his job as a trauma surgeon in New York City and hitting rock bottom, Hank Lawson’s brother Evan convinces him to take a trip to the Hamptons. After saving the life of a guest at a party, Hank gets the attention of billionaire Boris Kuester von Jurgens-Ratenicz. Boris convinces Hank to stay in his guesthouse and become the Hampton’s new concierge doctor. Together, Hank and Evan start the very successful HankMed and make house calls for both the very rich and the not so rich.
7. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (18 seasons)
The Special Victims Units of the NYPD investigates various sexual-based offenses. The show focuses on the life of Olivia Benson, one of SVU’s most dedicated detectives. We see Benson and her team work to solve the crimes and catch the criminals as well as the trial and the ADA’s attempt to prosecute the criminals.
