Breathing is important.
You’re probably thinking, “well duh Sherlock.”
But I forget to breathe. When school work, my aspirations, my need for fulfillment/happiness, my need to surpass expectations, trying to help my friends and family, and friend problems start weighing on me, I go into automatic pilot mode, not “breathing” mode.
Here are some of my favorite quotes that remind me/help me to breathe again:
When you feel weighed down by others:
“Ultimately we live for us and we make decisions for us and we do what we want to do, not necessarily because we're greedy and selfish because we are the people that have to live with the choices we make.”
When sadness is too comfortable:
"Don't doubt happiness or cut it short by worrying when it will end." (General Hospital)
“Happiness is not a destination." (One Tree Hill)
When you are down on yourself:
"You're so lucky dog, surrounded by so many people you love. But see, now you gotta make yourself one of those people." (One Tree Hill)
When you feel broken beyond repair:
“Accept yourself/ as you were designed.” (Rupi Kaur)
“You look at me and cry/ everything hurts/ I hold you and whisper/ but everything can heal.” (Rupi Kaur)
When you don’t feel seen:
“You deserve to be/ completely found/ in your surroundings/ not lost within them.” (Rupi Kaur)
When your dreams feel out of reach:
“You’ll pass that class. You’ll get that degree. You’ll start that dream job. You’ll marry your
When you feel overwhelmed by life:
“The world/ gives you/ so much pain/ and here you are/ making gold out of it." (Rupi Kaur)
I hope these quotes and reminders help you as much as they have helped me when I forget to breathe. I also hope that you take a step back and remind yourself of who you are and take care of yourself.
