7 Reasons Why You Should Change Your Major

Okay, I know what you are thinking. You are thinking I am crazy for even giving reasons to change your major, but yeah there are reason to do that. Seriously, you don't ever have to stick with one thing. College is the time to truly experiment and explore what you want to do which is why changing your major is totally okay. I know people who told me their parents changed their majors like five times before having a firm decision. Yeah, five times! Well, those five times could have been caused by so many different things and you could be thinking some of these things right now. Who knows?!

1. You might not fully like what you are doing right now.

Sometimes, you think you like something, but then you get into all of the work for it. After a bit of the work for it, you realize that you are not going to want to do this for the rest of your life, so you probably will start looking around for other things that you like. There are a lot of options out there.

2. You might take a General Education course and realize that is what you want to do in your life instead of what you originally planned.

Say you are that student who needed a decent chunk of general education courses that are required to graduate. You get into one class out of those general education courses you have to do and then realize that one of them is something that you absolutely love! Something sparked inside you and you felt like that is what you wanted to do for the rest of your life!

3. You are really struggling in the classes that you have to take for your major.

You get into the major that you are almost certain you want to be in. Then, the courses start up and you get very stuck and struggle in the courses. You have to really work hard to keep up and that is probably when you will think about changing your major to something that you still like and can handle.

4. You find out that you are better in another subject.

Sometimes this is harder to tell since most of the time, you know what subjects you are good at when you are in high school, but things also change when you get to the college classes of today. Things can get worse in some subjects and better in others. This could happen to you, but don't be afraid, it's totally okay! You could figure out that the subject that you found out you are really good at is the one for you!

5. The wrong information on what you needed to do to get to where you want was given to you originally.

Well, this is what I am currently going through. I was told that in order to be an English teacher for younger kids that I just had to major in English and then get all of the proper certification later, but I found out that I have to go into the actual younger child education program. I most likely have to change my major in order to keep with the plan that I actually want with my life. Trust me, it's not easy, but I bet when it is all figured out, everything will be good.

6. You were given the lack of exploration before coming to college.

Some high schools didn't give any one enough options for careers to look through or even just different classes to chose from that would give someone enough opportunities to figure out what they would want. Trust me, I came from a school that graduated with a class of about 70 students and the whole school is like less than 250 students in the high school. Yeah, with that small of a school, you don't get as many options as bigger schools that have more than 500 students. I did not have that many opportunities to figure out exactly how to get to where I wanted to go, but some people I graduated with while crossing the stage still had no idea where they wanted to go at all. Having opportunities to experiment and explore is extremely important.

7. First, you decided not to follow your passion.

This is a big one, you didn't follow your passion. You didn't go into the thing that you really wanted to do and you might severely regret that decision, but there is always time to change.

Seriously in life, make yourself happy. Do what you love and what makes you happy. That is all that matters in life! Make your life count and do what you love or what you find out you are really good at because you only live once and you should make the best of that one life you do have.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
