7 Reasons Why I Love My Dog
Nicole Karkazis

Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of having a dog. The day my parents told my brother and I that we were getting a puppy, my heart exploded. My dog, Scout, is the best furry friend I could have ever asked for. I gush about him to anyone who will listen; everyone who meets him or simply sees a picture of him can't help but fall in love with him. Here are seven of the reasons why he has my heart.

1. He was the best surprise...ever.

When I was little, my parents told my brother and I to get in the car and said we were going shopping. SURPRISE!!! We went to a breeders house and got to pick which Golden Retriever puppy we wanted. Getting a puppy was the one thing I had been dreaming about my whole life, and to this day getting Scout was one of the best days of my life.

2. He is a great listener.

I can rant to him, ramble on to him, or sit in silence, and he is there. A dog is truly the best listener a girl could ask for.

3. His cuddling skills are great.

Although he likes his space, he will jump on the couch and cuddle with me if I ask him to. He is so fluffy and I can't get enough of him!

4. He gets excited when I am excited.

If I start jumping up and down for no reason, his tail will start wagging and he will get so happy. It is so fun to have a personal cheerleader, which is something Scout has mastered.

5. He is always on board with taking naps.

Scout is a professional at taking naps, and I love bringing him into my room and getting him to lay on my bed with me. I am never lonely with him and I know he does not like to be alone either: a match made in heaven.

6. He is adorable.

I mean...c'mon, try telling me I am wrong.

7. He is the perfect companion.

Since a dog does not live as long as a human, he has the biggest heart. He is my best friend, and I love him to the moon and back. Being at school makes me sad since I can't cuddle with him or FaceTime him to say hi like I can with my parents. Going home on school breaks is simply the best because I get to see him.

Scout is an amazing dog, and is the best furry friend. He is our neighborhood's mascot and every kid on the block knows his name; although my family sometimes has no clue who the child is saying hi to him. I love him with all of my heart, and cannot wait to see him so soon. Hopefully now you all understand why I am obsessed with him.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
