A lot of people question if others should have a devotion to Mary. They are not sure that it is right. A devotion to Mary is very different then the worship or the adoration we have for God. Mary deserves to be honored, not worshiped. A devotion to Mary is not just respectful of the relationship we have for God, but can also help you grow closer to him than ever.

1. She is Jesus' Mother.

Out of all the women that have come and will come, she was chosen to be the mother of our Lord. She took care of him and taught him. The person who took on this job deserves respect.

2. She is our Mother.

During the Crucifixion before Jesus died, he gave us Mary as a mother. John 19:26-27 says, When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold, your son!" Then He said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" This was more than him asking John to take care of her; this was him giving us to Mary and giving her to us. She is our heavenly mother and as we know she is probably the best mom around just look how good her son turned out!

3. Jesus listens to her.

As we know Jesus is the perfect man, and the perfect man would listen to his mother. Jesus always listened to Mary. The Wedding at Cana is a good example; John 2:3-5 says, When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine." "Woman why do you involve me in this," Jesus replied. 'My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” He than goes forth and does what his mother asked him to do. When we come to Mary asking her to plead with Jesus for us, he will listen to her request.

4. Even God and the angels respect her.

God did not tell Mary she was to have the son of God but like the gentleman he is, he asked her. His angel even comes to her with so much respect saying she is full of grace. The majority of the Hail Mary is actually what angel Gabriel said to Mary.

5. She is a great role model.

Mary is the poster girl for giving her life to God. She risked the ridicule and abuse that a woman would receive for having a child before marriage. They stoned women who committed adultery in these days. She even almost lost her future husband because of it. She was willing to give her whole life up to do God's will. She is one of our greatest example of charity, chastity, and faith.

6. She is said to visit the souls of Purgatory.

Multiple Saints have had a chance to find out more about purgatory through their spiritual gifts. They have said that Mary comes and visits the souls that are there. This is such a beautiful act of the Queen on heaven and earth.

7. She will lead you closer to Jesus.

A relationship with Mary is one of the best ways to strengthen your relationship with Jesus. No one knows him like his mother. He wants a relationship with you so badly, and Mary knows this and will help out as much as she can.

Mary is our greatest advocate. She cares for us and loves us. A devotion to her is a very beautiful thing that every man and woman needs to think about. Some of the greatest Saints had a great devotion to her.
