It is a privilege to have a second family. It is even more of a privilege to have those people come from different areas, opposite walks of life, and all ranges of age. For those who have not experienced what it is like to love your job and those you work with even more, I'm sincerely sorry and hope one day you can find a place of work that makes you as happy as my work place has made me.
So here are seven reasons why you work family is the best family (besides the ones that are blood).
1. They can't walk away when you are venting.
This is one of my favorite parts about working at a family owned restaurant; everyone tries their very best to be nice to you. So when you have a bad day and start pouring out your heart while dipping sauces, your coworker cannot walk away simply because the is no where to hide.
2. If you are good to them, they will be good to you.
If you are nice to your coworkers, they will bust your tables when you have 10 people needing drinks, food, oh and Ranch! If you cover for them when they just do not feel like coming in, logically they'll be willing to help you when you have three test and a homework assignment due at 8 a.m. the next day.
3. You can express your frustrations about your parents/roommates/best friends.
More than likely, they have never met the people who you are closest to, so this works to your advantage when you think you might kill your roommate for the 12th time this week.
4.They have to hang out with you.
While working is not the ideal hanging out situation, you both still need the money and will both come in every Friday night. Because what's a Friday night rush without your wing woman?
5. They're your family when your away from yours.
Since leaving home, it has been hard not seeing my grandma once a week, but feeling like you have four extra grandmas in the back sure does help.
6. They give non-biased advice.
If you want to hear it or not, they are going to give you the truth, which in the long run will help you make better choices. Sometimes you need to hear it from someone other than you best friend who thinks just like you.
7. They make working fun.
I have never once walked into work dreading the day, even if it was going to be super packed, because working with people you love make the day go by so much faster.
There are thousand words I could say, but thankful is the only one that sums up my work experience. I have found a second family while just trying to make some extra money on the weekends. For that, I am grateful.
