7 UMass Photos You Must Take

1. Geese

Yeah, you read that right. When the hundreds of geese descend, it can feel like campus is under attack, but that never stops students from capturing the invasion. You won’t believe it until you see it for yourself.

2. Sunset

Whether you watch sunset from O-Hill, or from a window in one of the towers, it is one of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see. I’m not sure if its the mountains or the brick buildings in the distance, but the colors are breathtaking. Your camera might not deliver an Amherst sunset the credit it deserves, but you have to at least try, even if it means hanging dangerously from your lofted bed like I did for this photo.

3. Squad Pic

Whether you’re headed to a frat, house party, or semi formal event, you just have to take a picture. I mean you got all dressed up, right? Round up all your friends for the ultimate squad pic.

4.One foodie picture in downtown Amherst

There are so many great places to eat on campus, and in downtown amherst. If you’re feeling adventurous you could even head to Northampton. Between the coffee shops, restaurants and of course Antonio’s, there are so many foodie photo ops. Don’t even bother resisting the urge, you know you want to take out your phone and snap your food.

5. Tailgate/sporting event

Even if sports aren’t really your thing, they’re a big deal at UMass. I recommend going to at least one tailgate and game, you only get to live the “college experience” once. Grab some friends and your best UMass spirit gear and head out to a game with friends. You’ll have the pictures to last a lifetime.

6. The library

The W.E.B. Du Bois library is one of the tallest in the country, but that’s not the only reason people stop to snap a picture. No matter the season, or time of day, this photo is an absolute must. It’s beautiful in the fall, spring, and when it’s lit up at night. You will always see people stopping to take photos across the pond, bonus points if you can squeeze the chapel into the frame.

7. The Durfee Conservatory

Some people enjoy stopping by the conservatory to study or relax in the warmth and quiet. The stunning greenery and picturesque layout make it the perfect spot for an impromptu photo shoot.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
