It's 2018, we made it! While 2017 had its perks, I can safely say it definitely was not my year. Was it someone else's golden year? Probably, but I think the majority of us can agree 2017 came up very short. The semester was the roughest by far, and just when you think it can't get any worse, you lose a friend or two. Yet, looking back, everything had to happen for a reason, and maybe we can't see it now, but someday we will.
Speaking of looking back, I'm sure there are PLENTY of guys out there who should take five and look back on 2017. Can't figure out what you did wrong? I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who can tell you a thing or two. Lucky for you, I've got for you here a simple, straightforward list of New Year's resolutions that will help steer you on the right course through 2018.
Or so I can hope. Can a girl hope?
1. Give that girl you normally wouldn't go for a chance
That girl in your political science lecture with the pretty black hair twisted in two buns on the top of her head and shy eyes? She could very well be the best thing to ever happen to you, but you busy yourselves with the same old girl, every time. As you may be aware, many of those perfect girls you see on social media aren't what they appear to be, and they more than likely will not be the one for you. You can go ahead and follow them all and dream of the day they spare you a glance, but in doing so, that perfect girl for you will be long gone, and you'll still be alone. You might be surprised who you'll meet in 2018.
2. Read a book and make sure you finish it
Who has time to read in college anyway? I know how busy we all are, but taking time to read a chapter a day to wind down after doing homework will help relax you, and who knows, maybe you'll even enjoy it. You're not too cool for reading, so get that out of your head.
3. Open your mind to new music genres
There is more to the world than Gucci Gang, which I hope got left in 2017 where it belongs. Until you give it a fair chance, don't dis it. If you hate country music, try giving it a chance. Go to a concert, and have fun with friends, and maybe you'll realize it isn't half bad. Spotify is a gift, use it to your advantage. Music is powerful, and you can never have too much of it in your life.
4. Stop leaving girls on read. Please.
Why. What makes you think leaving a girl on read is ever a good idea? I get it, you do forget to answer sometimes and you're too busy to respond, but honestly guys, just tell us you're busy so we don't have to overthink about what you're up to. The horrible communication, in general, has got to go. We get so excited to talk to you, but more often than not we're struggling to figure out if you feel the same. Bad texting is something far too many of you are guilty of, and its got to get better, it's 2018 after all.
5. Cut everything and everyone toxic out of your life
If you're addicted to lord knows what, get the help you need to stop. Whether it's drugs, alcohol or an ex-girlfriend who keeps coming around even though you know she's no good for you. Cut it. Cut it all out. It's time to grow up and stand up for yourself. Toxic things add up and weigh on our lives. The second they're gone, it's going to feel so good. Do yourself a favor and put you first.
6. Don't allow yourself to have a wandering eye no matter how tough things may be in your relationship
Is your relationship hitting a stale point? Talk about what may be causing it, like an adult. Don't go sliding into DMs looking for an easy hookup during a "rough time." There are no excuses for cheating. If you aren't into the relationship anymore, speak up and tell her, it's better breaking her heart that way, than having her find out you've been messing around with half the girls on campus ready to spread their legs for you.
7. If you're a f*** boy... cut that out right now
Stop acting like you're gracing the female race with your presence everywhere you go. Girls are tired of the way you treat them, and in 2018, they will kick your sorry butt to the curb. My strongest recommendation to you is to treat a girl like you'd want your sister or cousin or mother to be treated. Don't break hearts, mend them. As a girl who's dealt with countless guys like you, I'm vowing to never again let someone like you get to me. You're old news, so I suggest you act the way your mother raised you.
