When you think of New York City, you think of the tourist attractions, the incredible fashion industry, the many business opportunities, and most importantly, the decadent cuisine. Here are seven restaurants and bakeries that are a must-visit in the city, especially over the winter break.

1. Sadelle's

Sadelle's, a vintage style restaurant located in the heart of SoHo, is known for their incredible bakery, various breakfast options, and fresh bagels. Their vegetable and smoked salmon assortment tastes just as incredible as it is designed and looks.

2. Levain Bakery

Located on the West Side of the city, Levain Bakery is known for their mouth-watering, warm chocolate chip cookies, and many other rich assortments of pastries and sweets. Their large variety of options attract not only tourists but city-folk themselves as well. Their cookies are absolutely to die for and therefore, worth the hundreds of calories.

3. Serendipity 3

Known for their incredible cuisine and frozen hot chocolates, Serendipity 3 is a must-try for anyone visiting the city. Their small and dim restaurant is always packed, but the environment is warm and comfortable. The visit to the restaurant is for sure a special, one of a kind experience that you can't miss out on.

4. Dominique Ansel Bakery


Located in SoHo, Dominique Ansel is a crowded, french-style bakery. Known for their cronut pastries and cookie dough "shots," the bakery is known for their signature desserts that you will absolutely love.

5. Sugar Factory

If you're a fan of the Hershey Factory or of Dylan's Candy Bar, Sugar Factory is the restaurant for you. While they obviously specialize in sweet drinks and desserts, Sugar Factory is also known for their decadent dairy products and rich dinners. Their Candy Goblet drink comes in a variety of flavors, including Lollipop Passion, Mai Tai, Berry Bliss, and White Gummi. The main restaurant in the city is located in the Meat Packing District.

6. Black Tap Craft Burgers and Beer

If you have an Instagram or Snapchat, you have most likely come across or seen a post with an extremely decadent milkshake that has made your mouth water. Commonly known as Black Tap, the restaurant is known for their flavorful burgers, side dishes, and milkshakes. The milkshake glasses have candy or cookies frosted onto the glass itself, adding color and excitement to the sweet drink. If you savor in the taste of chocolate, the cookie milkshake is a must-try.

7. Max Brenner Chocolate Bar

Last but not least, make sure to stop by Union Square to eat at Max Brenner, a restaurant that makes and specializes in all things chocolate. Known for their chocolate syringes, drinks, and pizzas, you'll leave the restaurant feeling absolutely full and satisfied.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
