I want to be a career driven, organized, passionate, and creative young woman. What's stopping me? Well, I know what usedto stop me, but I am actively working towards overcoming those things. These are things I've learned to do and stop doing in order to work towards my goal. So, here are seven ways to help you become the total girl boss that you're destined to be!

1. Don't worry about what other people are doing

I used to find myself enwrapped and obsessing over whether or not I was keeping up with other girls my age. This was even before I started undergrad. I remember in elementary school wondering if I had the name brand pink Crocs that everyone who was anyone had. In middle school, it was if I was taking the right classes and in college, I still compared myself to my peers. Stop. It's the best thing you can do for yourself. Focus on you!

2. Buy a planner

Sure, you can write down the major assignments down in your notebook and forget about them until the night before, or you can get yourself a big girl planner, write down your meal plan, outfit ideas, schedule some me-time, and get sh*t done! Then, you won't have any excuses.

3. Dress the part

It's so easy to wear sweat pants to class. I mean, really, they're so comfy. But, I will challenge you to not do so. Getting dressed in the morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. I once heard that you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have. This is so true!

4. Make a boss playlist

Make yourself a killer playlist on Spotify to get your work done. There's nothing worse than working with deafening silence in the background, unless you like that, you do you, girl.

5. Be confident

Confidence isn't something that comes over night. You have to have the mindset that what you're working towards is worth it and trust your gut. Sometimes you will take the L and other days, the win will be oh so sweet. But, you won't know unless you try!

6. You are where you are for a reason

You may not be at your dream job, yet. Do not discount your current situation or where you are in life. You are there for a reason, and believe it or not, you're learning valuable lessons there. Chin up, doll. You'll get to where you want to be soon enough. Greatness doesn't happen over night.

7. It's okay to not always have your stuff together

It happens. Just don't let it completely ruin your day. Nobody ever said that being the boss was ever going to be easy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
