7 Fall Dates Rhode Islanders Should Already Have Planned

The arrival of fall ushers in a whole new world for us lucky enough to experience it. Leaves cascading down from trees, Canada geese traveling south in perfect V formations, and squirrels running around with acorns in their mouths, searching for a place to store them for the impending winter. Here in Rhode Island, fall is being broadcasted on full display, and I can't get enough of how amazing it is that I call this wonderful state home.

For college students, we know with the beginning of fall, we're also presented with the beginnings of cuffing season. Guys and girls alike are looking for relationships, or just someone to spend those long, colder nights with instead of being alone. I have here a reasonably priced, fun list of ideas of dates to go on that every Rhode Islander should add to their list.

1. Spend a day exploring Newport

Whether you go to a mansion (Rosecliff and The Breakers are highly recommended) or just stroll through town shopping at the variety of different shops offered, a day in Newport with your person is something every Rhode Islander needs to do. Make sure to take cute selfies to post on the gram!

2. Take a walk around the University of Rhode Island's Kingston Campus

Not to brag or anything, but the Kingston Campus is absolutely gorgeous in the fall. The brick path leading to the library lights up with hues or red, orange and yellow every fall and reminds me, along with my fellow peers, why we chose to come to URI. If you go to URI and your person doesn't, give them a personalized tour, and show them all of your favorite places on campus.

3. Grab some ice cream at Newport Creamery

The temperature may be dropping, but it's never too cold for everyone's favorite dairy treat! After eating a warm, hearty meal, grab some ice cream to cool off. Nothing beats bonding with bae over a few scoops of chocolate chip cookie dough.

4. Watch the sunset at Beavertail State Park

Grab a comfy blanket, layer up, and find a nice spot on one of the many giant rocks at the park and watch the sun slowly creep down and out of the sky. Once the temperature starts to drop, you'll have an excuse to cuddle.

5. Go to the Roger Williams Park Zoo

Take things back to your childhood roots and take a ride to the zoo! Make it a goal to learn something new. Don't be afraid to geek out when you see your favorite animals, bae will totally think it's cute.

6. Take a day trip to Providence

Go to the Providence Mall for some retail therapy and then go to Federal Hill and enjoy some fine dining at Andino's Italian Resturant, or any restaurant you want. Splurge a bit and live it up. Yes, we may be broke college students but food is absolutely worth splurging on.

7. Hike at Pachaug State Forest

Embrace your outdoorsy side and go for a hike! Pack some snacks and stay hydrated while finding your way through the forest with your person by your side.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
