6 Tips For Finals Week

Finals week starts today and I know that things can be stressful. However, the more you remember these things, the less stressed out you will be. This is a mix of tips/messages to help you make it through finals. So just take it one step at a time and go with the flow. Here are 6 tips to get you through finals week:

  1. Remember that you are not your grades

It’s so easy to beat yourself up about getting a bad grade or not doing well on a test. Your grades do not define you, and you can aways bounce back from them. When you are working your dream job you’ll look back and laugh about how worried you were.

2) Take it one step at a time

What I like to do is make a list. I focus on one thing at a time instead of trying to multi-task. Then after each thing I cross it off the list and it makes me feel so much better. Taking it step by step makes me feel more productive and it doesn’t ‘cause as much of a headache.

3) Organize your life

Use your planner, highlighters, sticky notes, anything that will help you to remember everything you have to get done. I love writing not only reminders on sticky notes, but inspirational quotes as well. Self-Affirmation is always important.

4) Drink some tea

You might be a coffee person, and that’s okay, but try drinking some tea. I find that drinking a calming and sooting tea helps me to relax more. It’s so easy to get stressed out while studying, so take a break and give yourself some tea time.

5) Make a study playlist

(Disclaimer: This tip is for people who can listen to music without being distracted)

I love making playlists because they make me more motivated and music puts me in a happy mood.

6) Believe in yourself

I know it sounds very cliché, but believing in yourself helps you so much. Having a positive outlook and believing that you can be great will make you great. I promise.

So to everyone this finals week, I wish you the best of luck. Have an awesome summer!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
