I am, technically, a grown-ass adult. Which means I have earned the right to stay home alone.
However, this is not easy.
I was home alone this morning, and a lot of things happened to me.
Here are six things that ran through my mind when I am home alone, and things that might run through yours as well.
1. Thinking that every single noise is someone breaking into your house.
GiphyIt's snowed here in Connecticut, and it is starting to melt and fall off of high places. And the sound of snow falling off of high places sounds like someone moving inside. I thought someone was in my house at least three times, and twice I considered grabbing a kitchen knife to scare the crap out of them.
2. Realizing that you have not talked in hours.
GiphyDoes anyone actually talk when they are home alone, and not answering a phone call? There's almost no need to say anything. And when you realize that you haven't said anything in a while, that's weird.
3. Wondering what you are doing for food.
GiphyNo one uses an oven to make food when they are home alone. Microwave or toaster oven motherfuckers.
4. Never wanting to watch anything on TV.
Getting free reign of the TV is a lot harder than you think. Chances are, there isn't anything you actually are in the mood for to watch. Maybe it's because watching TV is a bit of a social activity.
5. Not knowing if you need earbuds.
For me, it is weird to listen to a show, or music, or a podcast, or anything on my electronic device without earbuds. While you technically don't need earbuds to listen to something when you are home alone, it still feels weird to do so without them.
6. Feeling the need to constantly be near a window.
When you are home alone, you have a responsibility to not let anything bad happen to the house. So, you need to keep a lookout.
