The first long distance car ride was only sixty-six miles, took a whole day and happened in the year 1888. Bertha Benz was the operator of this journey through the German backcountry from Mannheim to Pforzheim. She did it to publicize her husband's invention and to show people the future of long distance travel. Her decision was a huge success, as the event brought her husband's company to be the leading automobile manufacturer in the world.
From Bertha’s trip, the world has highly developed, building special surfaces for vehicles, a law system based around the technology and a whole culture dependent on automobiles. Even the automobile has developed into a very sophisticated piece of technology, even capable of driving itself. People depend on automobiles for many aspects of their lives, specifically travel.
I love sitting behind the wheel for a car ride, on a trip to somewheres else. Knowing the miles ahead and watching the landscape rush by me, is just a piece of the magic. Setting a playlist and knowing that it is going to go on for hours as you travel along on the drive. It doesn't really matter what I drive, it is really about the journey.
Today a sixty-six mile trip may seem short for a whole day of driving but it is an example of how powerful a car ride can be. People travel in vehicles all the time from commutes to work, to going out to get supplies, and for travel. A lifetime for a car is measured with the odometer and many of us get multiple odometers in our lifetime so go on see where you can take a trip.
