Writer's Block is the bane of every writer's existence. Unfortunately, it can strike at the most inopportune times (like right now, for me). If you seem to find yourself at a crossroads with what to write, here are a few tips to get you up and running with your creativity.
1. Take A Walk
Go outside, get some fresh air! Walking boosts creativity. I know that most of my inspiration comes from nature. Look at the beautiful blue sky against the green trees and find something wonderful to write about! If you live in the city, take inspiration from the beautiful skyline and the sparkling lights. There's always something to write about.
2. Get Suggestions From Friends
Honestly, sometimes your friends know you better than yourself. Get a second opinion on what they think you'd be great at writing and run with it. Sometimes that's the best way.
3. Look Up Writing Prompts
This is a sure-fire way to get your creative juices flowing. Writing prompts are awesome to get yourself into a headspace that will allow you to write your best. Find something that fits you and go!
4. Try The "Stream Of Consciousness" Approach
Sit in front of your computer and just type out everything you want to say in one continuous stream (don't worry, you can go back and edit later). Oftentimes this will be the most effective way to figure out what you really want to write about.
5. Listen To Music
Music is an amazing inspirational tool for anything. Turn on some of your favorite tunes and bust out a few paragraphs. It's easier than you think!
6. Try The "Who Am I" Exercise
Figure out who you are by listing your interests, your hobbies, your background, and the things you love most. You'll definitely find something to write that you'll relate to this way.
You know what's best for you when you start writing. You are the only one who can be uniquely yourself in an unadulterated way. Find your inspiration and let it take flight!
