The 6 Types Of People You See On The First Cold Day Of The Year

Here in Charlottesville, Virginia, we had our first truly bitter day about a week ago. Not only did it progressively get colder, it also rained the entire day. It was a smack in the face of the weather awaiting us in the coming months and some people were ready for it... others were not.

1. FINALLY!

These people love the cold weather and have been waiting for it entirely too long, if you ask them. They've reached their favorite time of year and won't let any Debbie downers dampen their spirit!

2. Why am I subjected to such a bitter world?

These people are not made for weather below 65. Any bit of chill and their mood plummets. They'd like a vacation to any place warmer, please. Return date = June.

3. I have on every warm piece of clothing I own, I am ready!

Flannel shirt, check. Coat #1, check. Coat #2, check. Large overcoat, check. Long johns, check. Scarf, check. Gloves, check. Two pairs of the warmest socks they own, check. These people will try their absolute hardest to stay warm, no matter what. Sure, they might look a little funny, but they'll be the ones laughing when you are underdressed and can't feel your toes.

4. I can finally wear my new winter coat!

Weather indicates fashion of these people. So whenever the weather changes to the next category, it means that they can break out all the appropriate pieces and finally wear them. New coat? Perfect time to wear it. Look out for those people looking extra good in the midst of chilled air.

5. Wait, what? It was 80 degrees yesterday

Among the happy people and the prepared people, there will inevitably be the people that didn't check their weather app before putting together their outfit for the day. Wearing shorts and sandals may have worked perfectly well yesterday, but whatever is the Virginia jetstream went and screwed it all up and now it's 35 degrees colder than yesterday and we're all confused.

6. Ok, but where are the holidays?

These people equate cold weather with the holidays. So, the colder weather signifies that Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming. This is great for festive feelings and jolly spirits, but horrible for productivity in the last stretch of classes.

No matter where you fall, the first cold day of the year has come or is about to come. Prepare yourselves, and enjoy (or at least survive) the next few months, folks.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
