Now that 2014 is more than halfway over (wait what?) it’s time to stop and take a look at the top trends of the year so far.
Whether you judge style by the height of your denim shorts waistband, or the time it spent to put on your makeup, trends are all over the spectrum this year. Here is a list I compiled of some of the ones we’ve been seeing the most.
Ombre hair. While this style sneaked its way into the hair salons back in late 2012, lighter locks are really starting to peak due to its great success as a summer look. To brighten up your ends, head to your nearest salon or, depending on how brave you are, pick up an at home kit. Don’t forget the toner!
Bold brows. We can thank stars like Lilly Collins and Miranda Kerr for relieving us of the constant stress of plucking and waxing. The days of the thin arch is behind us. To achieve the right look, try Anastasia’s Bold Brow Kit.
Matte lips. Whether you’re aiming for a nude shade or something bold, shiny gloss is out. For the daytime try NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in a variety of neutral shades. When nighttime rolls around, switch over to their Matte Lipstick line in something fun like Perfect Red or a violet.
Lengthened lashes and liner. For an instant red carpet look, pull out the false lashes and add the winged gel liner. Achieving the perfect cat eye is much easier now thanks to the June release of Benefit’s They’re Real Push Up Liner. For thick lashes to go along with it, try the They’re Real mascara.White liner. Like most other 90s trends, this last one may seem a little questionable, but trust me, it works. Adding a single swipe of white liner in your waterlines increases the size that your eyes appear, makes you look more awake and brightens up your look overall. Try the NYX Eye Pencil in the shade Milk.
Contouring. Now it’s nowhere near as complicated as Kim Kardashian makes it seem. Some simple contouring and highlighting can really freshen up your whole appearance. Ask the associates at your local makeup shop for a quick lesson and color match.
Any of these looks can be achieved fairly easily. All you need is a few key products, and maybe a YouTube tutorial or two.
