You can hear society dragging its heels as employees go back to work, students go back to school, and the pressure of New Year’s resolutions make you feel more like crawling back into a hole than turning over a new leaf.

To cheer you up, here are a handful of ways to dispel the gloom!

1. Don’t hanker after another break

Trust me, living from weekend to weekend makes life miserable. Instead of wishing that you’d had an extra week off or itching for the next holiday on the calendar, how about finding positivity in the present? Who says you can’t be joyful while you’re at school or work?

2. Smile

Laugh. Do a little dance. Tell yourself you love life. The more you convince yourself that you’re cheerful, the more content you’ll be. It works.

3. Listen to a happy song

Something peppy bouncing through your ears is sure to lift your spirits.

4. Keep drinking hot chocolate and eating peppermints

Why not? Just because it’s not Christmas anymore doesn’t mean you can’t prolong the festive feelings.

5. Think about everything you could be thankful for

Your family, your friends, your education… Include the little things, too—like that warm shower or that free sample or those chickadees hopping around the bench or the classmate who waved to you on campus. And hallelujah, the days are getting longer!

6. Strike up a conversation with someone else

Bring a bucketful of sunshine and dump in into their lap. Ask them how they’re doing. Show them you care. When you make someone’s day, it’ll make yours, too.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
