6 Things I Want My Future Roommate To Know

To the person I'll be spending the majority of my time with in the coming year.

6 Things I Want My Future Roommate To Know
Adrian College

Dear Roomie,

You and I have had the pleasure of meeting in person and getting to know each other for the last four months or so, but in about a month, we’re going to be spending a whole lot of time together and learning even more about each other.

So here are some things I’d like you to know:

1. I can’t wait to know you better!

Seriously, I can’t wait to know you better! I love making new friends, especially when I already know we have something in common. We’ve already gotten to know each other the past few months, but my hope is that we become super close by the end of the semester and I gain a lifelong friend.

2. I understand that the first few weeks might be difficult.

College is a new experience for the both of us; we’re both out on our own for the first time and we’re both in a situation we’ve never been in before. I totally understand that you’ll probably get homesick from time to time, especially the first few weeks. I won’t roll my eyes at you if you want to cry because you miss your parents or your sister, or even your dog, I’ll be homesick too.

3. I’ll be there for you.

Need to talk things out? Have something on your mind that’s bothering you? Did a boy break your heart? Did a snotty girl steal your boyfriend? I’m your go-to girl. I’ll sit with you and talk to you and try my best to fix your problem, whether it be a test you’re stressing over or a boy who’s playing with your heart; I’ll help you study, tell you I’m going to put the fear of God into the lucky fellow, whatever you want me to do to help you feel better.

4. I’m a night owl, not a morning person.

If I have a class at eight or nine in the morning, believe me, it’s not by my choice whatsoever. I’ll more than likely be half awake if you find me awake before eight in the morning and I will gladly jump at every opportunity to sleep in past 11 in the morning that I get. Need to talk about something that’s been bugging you at 1 a.m.? I’m down for that, and I’m probably going to be more awake then than at nine in the morning. I’ll stay up with you until 2 a.m. binge watching "Law and Order SVU" any day, but there’s no guarantee I’ll go with you to grab breakfast at eight in the morning.

5. I can be a total hermit or a social butterfly; it depends on the day.

There will be some days when I just want to be “alone,” or just holed up in our room, that is, and there will be some days where I want to go out and go to hockey games, hang out with friends, go grab something to eat with a few people. If I say I don’t want to go somewhere with you, it’s not because I’m mad at you; some days I just need to lay low and keep to myself. I promise it’s not you.

6. You might have to force me to be sociable at times.

Sometimes I’m horrible at introducing myself to new people. Approaching random strangers and introducing myself can scare the daylights out of me, so you’re probably going to give me a little nudge and remind me that I need more than five friends and should go introduce myself to the girls down the hall from us.

Above anything else, I’m beyond excited for what the next school year is going to have in store for the both of us, and I can’t wait to start the next part of my life with someone like you by my side!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
