Move in is almost here!

6 Things To Do Before Summer Ends

Believe it or not Bobcats, we only have a little over a month until move in day! Whether it has gone by in a flash or has seemed to go on forever, summer is winding down and with it comes the excitement of the semester to come. However, there are some things to do and some sentimental experiences to have before class is in session.

Things to do with Family

1. Have a family ______ night

In my household, game nights are legendary. We play aggressive rounds of Rummy, Wizard, and Uno late into the night, and don't realize the time until it's midnight and we're on the tenth round of Parcheesi.

Whatever your family does best together, from game night to movie night and everything in between, do it at least once! You probably won't get another chance until Winter Break, if then, so enjoy time as a group now.

2. Cook dinner for everyone

It doesn't have to be anything fancy! Set a night aside to make a meal for your household, and make it a night of togetherness. Not only is it good practice for the next semester, it gives whomever cooks in your house a night off and sets up good time to be together.

3. Spend a day (or two!) with your sibling(s)

If you have siblings that are home, spending a day with them is a good way to set up a long period of separation. My younger sister is a senior in high school this year, and I won't be home for much of her "lasts" as a high schooler, so I plan to spend a day or more with her helping her with senior pictures and looking at homecoming dresses. It's important to me to keep that bond strong, and quality time is a good way to do that.

Things to do with friends

1. Have one last party!

Though your friend group may have changed over the course of your college career or in this summer in between high school and college, make the most of the time with the friends that you do have.

Plan one last get together, be it big or small, and enjoy the time with the people from home. Or, if you've traveled somewhere for an internship or job, throw a party with the friends you've made there! There are only so many free (or mostly free summers) left before real adulthood hits, and it's important to make memories while you can.

2. Visit a friend from far away

For a little change in scenery and a good time away from home, a trip to see a friend can be a great mini vacation. So far this summer I have been to two different people's houses for quick overnight visit, and plan to head to Syracuse, NY soon to visit another. My roommate next year lives about an hour away, and she plans on coming up to visit for a day or two before summer ends!

Things to do by yourself

1. Spend a day to yourself

No matter if you're an introvert or extrovert, going back to school means that your personal time will be cut down tremendously. Allow yourself to spend some time doing something solitary that makes you happy, or something that needs to be accomplished.

As you prep for the start of school, remember not to anticipate and miss anything in this last month you have! Enjoy the rest of the summer, you'll miss this time come fall.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
