It’s January, which means winter is and has been in full swing for around a month now. Some people love winter and the cold weather that comes along with it.
Yes, building a snowman, drinking hot chocolate while snuggling under blankets and binge-watching Netflix, and wearing cute sweaters all sound pretty fun. However, people often forget about the harsh cold weather and the strong possibility of getting sick that come along with the winter season.
These struggles are real for everybody facing the unbearable winter weather, especially college students. Here are 6 struggles that college students, unfortunately, face during a harshly cold winter season.
1. Fighting the urge to sleep in
Having to leave the comfort of your warm, cozy bed to get yourself ready to go out into the brutally cold weather outside is never easy. Why would anybody want to put themselves through that?
2. Wearing multiple layers to stay warm
Not only is it harder to leave bed in the morning, but it also takes longer to get ready to take on the day. Piling on multiple layers takes time, effort and makes it harder to walk to class. Yet, you have to pile on those hats, scarves, sweaters, boots and puffy jackets in order to keep warm.
3. Classes seem farther away than usual
Walking to class becomes the ultimate struggle in the cold weather. A class that is merely half a mile away seems like it is a multitude of miles away. At least the cold weather urges you to walk faster to escape the cold!
4. Your social life suffers
Similar to the struggle to get out of bed in the morning, it is hard to leave the comfort of one's home/dorm. Due to this, when it comes time to go out with people, you'll find yourself making up excuses to avoid going out into the cold. Well, at least you have Netflix!
5. Getting sick
Yet another con of the brutally cold weather is the number of illnesses flooding college campuses. No matter how much you try to avoid catching germs, you will most probably end up with at least the case of the sniffles if not something far worse. Thanks, cold weather!
6. Being pale and having dry skin
Due to the deprivation of Vitamin D, your skin becomes really pale, making you look like a ghost or flushed out. Oh, and don't forget the fact that your skin becomes super dry and scaly. Better stock up on an abundance of moisturizer!
