So you never started your New Year's resolution, but you've started more Netflix series than you can keep track of. We can all make simple changes in our lives to make living easier. I think it boils down to us forgetting small things that make us happy and allowing large projects to consume our lives. Pick up a book and read instead of browsing social media one day, it might change your life.
1. Read a book.
You've said it a million times, "I should start reading again". When will you start? According to Life Hack, reading improves your memory, relieves stress, improves focus and concentration, and allows you to relax and unwind after a long day. I think the most important part of reading is that it is free entertainment. You don't have to charge anything or have wifi to pull a book out and be engulfed in a story. If you don't like reading you just haven't found the right book.
2. Going for a morning jog.
This isn't even revolved around exercise. You could be going the slowest pace possible and just enjoying fresh air and the morning sun. There is definitely a stigma against running and it becomes this grueling task that you're only doing it to fit into a bikini. If the weather is right and you can wake up before most people are outside, it will give you time to think about your day.
3. Visit more coffee shops.
Coffee is so special to bond over. There are so many flavors and styles that it leaves you endless possibilities when you need to kill some time. Even if you aren't much of a coffee person, the atmosphere is relaxing and there are always fun smoothies and teas that will work just as well. I recommend listening to "Rainy Cafe," a website that produces the sounds you might here in a coffee shop while a thunderstorm plays outside.
4. Dress to impress.
You never know if you'll have to spontaneously present something in class. It's better to be over dressed for every occasion than under. Especially if you're actively looking for jobs or internships, you might run into someone important.
5. Keep a notebook to write down what you might forget.
If you're like me, you have horrible time management and is constantly forgetting small things you wanted to do. I started to email myself in the beginning of the day so I have some recollection of tasks I would like to complete by the end. If you are beginning to have too many things to remember, maybe you need to cut back on one of your activities.
6. Express gratitude.
Just a simple "thank you" can make someone's day. I've worked in all jobs ranging from food service to retail and there's nothing worse than giving your best service to someone who is not appreciative of your effort. This is not saying you should be giving all of your effort in order to receive praise, but sometimes people need those small forms of gratitude to continue a happy day.
