Spring might be a universal relief after any long, cold winter, but there is a specific feeling that comes along with springtime in the rainy Pacific Northwest, especially Oregon. Whether it is the surprising amount of allergies that affect nearly everyone and their dogs or it is the warm feeling of a sun after months of grey, something about Oregon springs are better and more sudden than anywhere else.
The springtime in Oregon has advantages and disadvantages to it, just like anywhere else, but that doesn't stop it from being the best at spring.
1. Daisies are everywhere
Did you know that there were daisies even in areas that you were 90% sure wasn't even real grass? If you didn't, then you must not have lived in Oregon during the spring. No matter where you go, you'll have an opportunity to sit and make a great daisy chain, one longer than you ever have before.
2. There isn't a cloud in the sky
Seeing as Oregon is known for the rain, it's amazing when spring comes along and takes that stereotype away. Warm days where the sun hits every single Oregonian as they walk around without not a single cloud in the sky happen often. It's almost like everyone forgets that the sky is supposed to be blue, not grey.
3. Seasonal Depression? Who's she?
Seasonal Depression always hits hard in Oregon, even for those who haven't had it before moving to the rainy state. However, come spring, there is not a slow decline of SADs, it's quick and everyone feels as if they are ready to get back on top of things. Seasonal Depression is canceled and regular depression is no longer a teammate against Oregonians' mental health.
4. Sneezing can be heard anywhere you go
A downside to how great spring is in Oregon, especially after the grey and bleak winter, is that allergies can't be avoided come April and May. Especially for those who have moved to the state from somewhere without allergies, the season is a constant sneezing competition everywhere you go.
However, don't let allergies keep you out of the Oregon sun. Take some allergy medication and go for a walk in a field of daisies and enjoy the nice weather.
5. The population doubles
It appears to be self-explanatory, but it is still amazing to see how the size of towns seemingly doubles whenever the sun comes out for even a moment in Oregon. Though everyone knows that most people are simply hiding outside in the rains of winter and hiding from the cold, it is still shocking to see every citizen of a town outside simply because the clouds went away for a few hours.
6. Next week, the forecast says it'll be in the high thirties
Unfortunately, the Pacific Northwest is not immune to the whiplash and retaliation of winter. It is not truly springtime unless, after a day in the seventies, you are preparing to be wearing six layers within the next few days. Hey, at least Oregonians all have some great sweaters to keep warm with.
