6 Reasons Why The Bay Area Is The Best Place To Be Home For The Holidays

I will start off this piece by saying that yes, I may be biased because I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, but in spite of this, I can confidently tell you that this place is the best place in the world - especially when coming home for the holidays.

1. The weather.

This is an obvious one - whenever anyone thinks of California they think of the weather. Summers are a perfect sunny and 75, and even winters never get colder than 45 degrees. That cooling fog keeps the weather perfect and gets everyone excited to come back to those amazing temperatures.

2. Cute suburbs down the SF Bay Peninsula.

Most people when visiting San Francisco never really take into account the cute suburb cities down the peninsula, south of the city. Towns range from Burlingame (pictured above), San Mateo, San Carlos, Menlo Park, and Palo Alto. All of these suburbs have cute downtown areas and great shopping. Next time you visit the bay, I highly recommend making a stop at one of these spots.

3. The bay provides the ocean...

An obvious attraction everyone wants to see in California is the ocean. Northern California ocean temperatures are a little too cold to swim in, but throw on a wetsuit and you've got great surfing spots - or even just admire the ocean from afar. I feel as though being away from the ocean gives me a sort of coastal separation anxiety, so coming home and looking at the ocean always makes me happy.

4. ...but also provides the mountains.

Hop in the car and take a quick 3-4 hour drive to Lake Tahoe, California, and you've got some serious mountain views. In the winter, the Sierra Nevada's get some great snow where everyone loves to go skiing. In the summer, you'll get a beautiful lake to swim in and some incredible mountain views to admire.

5. Again, the views.

The Bay Area has some unbelievable views that you can find all over not only the city, but also the peninsula. The Golden Gate Bridge is obviously San Francisco's most famous landmark, but to the residents of the city, its a reminder of home. Look up online famous views in the bay and you are sure to find some amazing spots for photo-ops.

6. Of course, the food.

Again, I may be biased, but you can never get any better than some good old fashioned California In-N-Out. If it's food you are looking for when you come to the bay, there is literally nowhere you can go wrong. There are options for all kind of foods - burgers, Mexican food, Asian food, you name it, the bay has it.

Those were some of the reasons why I love calling the Bay Area home and my favorite parts about it. If you ever wanted to visit San Francisco and see what it has to offer, give this list a glance and you are sure to find everything you need here.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
