6 Reasons why I am Excited for August 17th

I recently graduated from high school, posing the question, "What's next?" I found my answer at Missouri State. I have been planing on attending MSU for several months now, simply adding to my anticipation. There are countless reasons as to why I am excited to embark on this journey.

Living with my Best Friend

Endless nights with my best friend from seventh grade, countless shopping trips to target and Ikea for dorm accessories as well as no parents to tell us what to do and when to do it? Yes please!

Decorating the Dorm

Having a personal space to call my own means that I can decorate as much or as little as I please. And while I have been shopping for dorm pieces for over 6 months now, I can not stop shopping for my dorm. Bohemian glam is my personal style for my dorm this year, including lots of pinks and gold. My roommate and I agreed on a large Indian style rug for between the beds and some coordinating colors.

Joining a Sorority

I have heard numerous great things about my schools greek life and would like to become a part of it. After all, I don't have a sister so I may as well gain a couple hundred in college. I also believe that the rush experience alone will help me to get outside of my comfort zone and make friends within the first week of college.

Class

Most students dread the end of summer, with good reason, but I am simply excited for the respect that comes with having classes throughout the day and projects spread, in advance, within the semester. College classes are a completely new realm of responsibility and respect compared to high school. The dual enrollment and advance placement classes offered at my school helped to give me an idea what class will be like this coming school year, but I am excited to see what college class is genuinely like.

Friends

I am enthralled at the idea of making so many new friends and being with other students from all over the world. There is so much that can be learned from friends and I am excited for the lessons that will go on outside of class as well as the ones inside.

Family

With my move to college, I will be 3 hours closer to a very large chunk of family that I have not had the privilege to live close to. Although I had visited often, it will not compare to living 10 minutes away from so much family. When college life gets hard, I know I will have a great support system whom will help me through it all.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
