It’s inevitable that in life, you’ll find your best friend who lives five minutes from you. But times will change and she’ll become your long-distance best friend and be a three-hour flight away. It can be difficult being away from your best friend because you cannot go out to eat with them on Friday nights like you once did and run to their side when the ups and downs of life finally catch up to you.
But, you soon learn that this distance is OK and you still have each other.
1. You get to go out of town to visit her.
At first it seems like a problem to book a flight to visit your friend when you used to be able to drive. In actuality, it is a sweet escape and you get to visit your friend’s home.
2. You get to meet their friends.
Congrats! You automatically have new friends! I cannot count the times my friend has said “OMG! You would love her.” And when I got the chance to meet her friend, I ended up loving her.
3. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
I've heard that phrase a lot, and I have always thought it was stupid. Well, in this case of friendship, it's actually true. While you two best friends are both off thriving in your lives and at college, you still countdown to when you can make memories together. And, people can be crazy. Getting to experience new people will really make you appreciate the old ones.
4. Reuniting might be better than your birthday.
I will be the first to admit my birthday should be a national holiday. But, never have I been more excited to know the next time I am going to see my long-distance friend. Hugging her tightly when that day arrives, might as well be second-best to my birthday. Because seeing your person is that exciting.
5. You can go weeks or months without seeing each other, and it's the exact same.
You know the type of people that you have to make a conscious effort with in order to keep the relationship the same? Thankfully, this is not one of them. You and your best friend are so close and comfortable with one another that time apart does not impact anything.
6. They are family to you.
When your mom calls and asks how you are, she asks about your best friend too. You get invited to family events and you treat her mom like she is your second mother. You have more siblings because you think of hers as your own. You two are practically sisters.
